Diagnostician. Asst/Assoc/Full Professor of Clinical Diagnostic Medicine in the California Animal Health & Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS) and in either the Department of Population Health and Reproduction or the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology within the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis.

The successful candidate will be in residence at the newly constructed, full service CAHFS Turlock laboratory in Turlock, California. This position is on site and not currently eligible for remote work. You will be joining a local team of two avian diagnosticians and an anatomic pathologist, and will be part of a four-lab system with 19 anatomic pathologists, toxicologist, epidemiologist, bacteriologists, virologist, and an electron microscopy specialist. CAHFS-Turlock is a new 40,000 sq. ft. facility schedule to open in early 2026 with local testing capabilities such as molecular diagnostics, bacteriology including MALDI-TOF and immunology. CAHFS Turlock currently receives a diversity of poultry species and mammalian cases will also be received in the new facility. The salary range for this position is $172,200 - $323,400. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

DVM or equivalent, with advanced training in poultry diseases required. Board certification or eligibility by the American College of Poultry Veterinarians (ACPV) is required; American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) board certification or eligibility is desired. Appointment renewal to the 4th year requires ACPV board certification. Demonstrated ability in gross and microscopic avian pathology required. Knowledge of poultry production required. Demonstrated interest, aptitude, and capability in avian diagnostic disciplines, disease investigation and experience in diagnostic interpretation required. Willingness to learn mammalian diagnostics required. Ph.D. degree in veterinary pathology or related field preferred. Knowledge of quality assurance, food safety practices, molecular diagnostics and bacteriology desired. The successful candidate will have: i) excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with veterinarians, producers and government agencies; ii) a client-focused, service-oriented approach to diagnostics; and iii) demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
